The court has decided not to hear the petition submitted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the parliamentary election in Techiman South.

In its ruling handed out on Wednesday, November 30, the Wenchi High Court also imposed a fine of GHS100,000 upon the principal opposition party.

Christopher Beyere Baasongti, who was running for parliament as the party's candidate in 2020, filed the election petition against the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) and Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, who had been declared the winner of the election.

As one of the reasons for the petition, they pointed to inconsistencies in the subsequent declaration of the results after the tallying of the votes.

The party took the elections management body to court because they believed that the verdict had been rigged in favor of the NPP candidate by the elections management body.
