During a formal presentation at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, imparted significant advice to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO. He urged NAPO to ensure that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, does not regret choosing him as his running mate.
The Asantehene's remarks were delivered in the presence of key NPP leaders, underscoring the importance of trust and loyalty in their political partnership. He emphasized that NAPO must live up to the faith placed in him by Dr. Bawumia.
Reflecting on NAPO's reputation, the Asantehene addressed rumours of his alleged disobedience and arrogance. He advised NAPO to serve with humility and follow Dr. Bawumia’s guidance closely.
“As a son, I have advised him in the room, but let me tell him this again: don’t let Dr. Bawumia regret selecting you to be his running mate. As you go, be a good servant to him. Do what he tells you to do,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated.
He also touched upon perceptions of NAPO’s arrogance, which he found surprising. “Some have said that you are arrogant. It’s a surprise to me because I didn’t see that when I was training him. Why is it that people are now complaining that he has become an arrogant person?”
The Asantehene concluded by urging NAPO to maintain a humble demeanor and avoid letting such negative labels define him. He also reassured Dr. Bawumia of his support and readiness to mediate if any issues arise.
This counsel from the Asantehene highlights the critical need for unity, humility, and mutual respect within the NPP as they move forward in their political journey.
