In a heartfelt plea for security and justice, residents of Bole in the Savannah Region have urgently petitioned the Interior Minister, the Inspector General of Police, and the Savannah Regional Security Council. Their call to action seeks immediate intervention against a horrifying spree of serial killings that has left the community in fear and disarray.
Over the past year, more than twenty residents of Bole have tragically lost their lives to brutal murders. In 2022, the bodies of victims were found gruesomely half-buried, with parts missing. The violence has escalated recently, targeting vulnerable individuals such as mentally ill people and night security guards. From January to June this year alone, four bodies were discovered in various locations around Bole.
Once a bustling town, Bole has now become uncannily quiet at night, with residents too afraid to venture out after dark. The community's growing anxiety led to a massive protest on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The youth of Bole, desperate for change, demanded an end to the killings and greater police presence in their town.
Leading the protest, Mahama Haruna, a key organizer, presented a petition highlighting the dire security situation. "We urge immediate action to restore peace, order, and hope in our community. We demand a full account of the twenty murder cases and assurance that the perpetrators will be brought to justice," Haruna stated passionately.
Haruna further emphasized the need for increased security measures. "We request a significant boost in police personnel and resources to ensure effective policing in Bole, which has sadly become a haven for serial killers. We also ask for regular updates on the investigation process to keep the community informed," he added.
For residents like Fauzia, the lack of security has directly impacted their livelihoods. "I sell noodles by the roadside at night to support my family, but now I can’t do that because of the fear gripping us. We’ve imposed a self-curfew and sleep early, not knowing who might be next," she lamented.
Responding to the crisis, the Ghana Police Service announced on Friday, June 7, that a team of experts has been deployed to Bole to assist the Regional Police Command. Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso expressed his deep concern over the situation but assured his unwavering support for the security agencies. "The surge in unnatural deaths is deeply troubling. I am in constant contact with security forces and am committed to providing the necessary support to solve these crimes," he affirmed.
The residents of Bole remain hopeful that with heightened security efforts and community vigilance, their town can once again be a safe and peaceful place to live.
