The government’s dedication to developing a robust railway network is about more than just transportation, according to Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam. It's about spurring economic growth, generating employment opportunities, and improving connectivity across the nation.
During the mid-year budget review presentation in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23, Dr. Amin Adam proudly announced that the Nsawam-Accra-Tema railway line is now complete and operational. He also highlighted the near-completion of the iconic Tema to Mpakadan railway line, which is 99% finished and expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.
Additionally, he revealed that the construction of the Kojokrom-Manso section is on track to be finished before the end of 2024. Looking ahead, the Manso-Huni Valley line, including its extension into the Takoradi Port, is slated for completion by May 2026.
Dr. Amin Adam emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure as well. This commitment is reflected in the construction of new roads, and the upgrade and maintenance of existing ones. The rehabilitation and maintenance efforts for road infrastructure nationwide are progressing at various stages of completion.
