Seven brave firefighters are currently recovering at St. Dominic Catholic Hospital in Akwatia and the Kade Government Hospital after a vehicular accident in Adankrono.
The unfortunate incident happened as the firefighters were responding to an emergency at Otwenkwanta. At 8:37 AM on Sunday, the fire department received a distress call about a fuel tanker that had veered off the road at Otwenkwanta. In response, the team departed promptly at 8:38 AM.
While navigating a curve near the Gaso filling station, their fire engine was involved in an accident. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible steering lock issue as the cause. The fire engine, with registration number FS 438, had eight personnel on board. Fortunately, one member escaped without injury.
Five of the injured firefighters were immediately taken to St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, while the driver and duty officer were transported to Kade Government Hospital.
Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFO Jennifer Naa Yarley Quaye, visited both hospitals and the accident site to offer support and reassurance. She confirmed that all injured personnel are in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.
