In a bold move, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced its intent to prosecute Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, for what it deems as failed and costly policies during her tenure at the Ministry of Special Development Initiative (MSDI). The NDC argues that these initiatives have not only failed to deliver on their promises but have also resulted in significant financial losses to the state.
Mustapha Gbande, the NDC's Deputy General Secretary, has asserted that a future NDC administration will leave no stone unturned in investigating projects like the One-Village-One-Dam initiative and the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP). These programs, which were meant to provide essential services such as potable water and modern toilet facilities to communities, have, according to the NDC, fallen short of their objectives under Koomson's leadership.
Gbande also raised concerns about potential financial mismanagement, suggesting that the ministry may have served as a vehicle for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to siphon off state funds. He emphasized the importance of tracking down the financial losses associated with these projects, particularly the One-Village-One-Dam initiative.
Moreover, the NDC has signaled its intention to pursue legal action against Hawa Koomson for her alleged involvement in violent incidents targeting NDC members in Kasoa. Gbande referenced specific occurrences, including the gunfire and motorbike attacks at the Steps to Christ registration centre in 2020, and a shooting on December 7, 2020, which resulted in three injuries. These incidents, he stated, will be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice is served.
As the political landscape in Ghana continues to heat up, the NDC's vow to prosecute Hawa Koomson could mark a significant turning point, reflecting the party's commitment to accountability and justice. This pledge may resonate strongly with the electorate, particularly those concerned about governance and the prudent use of public funds.
