Organised Labour has officially called off its nationwide strike, which commenced on Monday, July 15, 2024. The strike was a response to the sale of 60 percent of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels.
The decision to end the strike followed a communication from SSNIT dated July 12, 2024, stating the termination of the intended sale of its hotel shares to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong.
During an emergency meeting held in Accra on Monday, Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), announced the cessation of the strike and directed all workers to resume their duties on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Dr. Baah also revealed that SSNIT has been given a one-month ultimatum to engage with Organised Labour to address all unresolved issues related to the management of pensions. He warned that further actions would be considered if SSNIT fails to comply with this demand.
Dr. Baah expressed his appreciation to all workers and Organised Labour groups across Ghana for their support during the strike.
